To keep your teeth healthy and beautiful, you should see your dentist every six months for your regular cleaning and exam. But in between those visits, you need to brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss once a day. And you need the right tools for the job.
Your toothbrush needs to have soft bristles that are not worn or flattened. If the bristles are in bad shape, or if your toothbrush is three months old, it is time for a new one. When you select your new toothbrush, again, look for soft bristles, and a head that is small enough to reach every part of your mouth.
Selecting a dental floss is often a matter of personal preference. Dental floss is available in waxed or unwaxed varieties. Some people find that waxed floss is easier to slide between their teeth and dental work. Monofilament floss will not shred as easily as nylon floss. If you have trouble using traditional dental floss, talk with your dentist about using a floss threader or a water flosser. What matters most about dental floss is that you use it at least once a day!
If you have any questions about what product is right for you, then you need to talk to the one person who understands your mouth better than you, and that is your dentist. Whether you have questions about what products to use, have a problem with your mouth or teeth, of if it is just time for your routine visit, our dentist, Dr. Betzy Lara-Perdue will be happy to see you.
