If you have a game plan to have strong teeth and a healthy smile, then you need to have the proper players (also known as oral hygiene tools) to help you complete your game plan and reach your oral health and smile goals. To help you know which tools to use as you clean your teeth and gums each day, our North Forest Family Dental Care dental team encourages you to use the following:

Toothbrush: A soft-bristled toothbrush is ideal for cleaning your smile, even though it might not seem like it. The soft bristles will thoroughly scrub your teeth and will also take good care of your gums. When it comes to using a manual or electric toothbrush, your preference is all that matters. Both types of toothbrushes can effectively clean your smile.

Toothpaste: It’s best to use a fluoride toothpaste when you brush your teeth. The fluoride will penetrate your tooth enamel and strengthen and nourish your teeth. This gives your chompers the ability to fight off dental issues, like tooth decay and enamel erosion. You can also look for other types of paste that can help with specific problems, like desensitizing toothpaste or whitening toothpaste.

Floss: Floss is a product that can clean your smile no matter which type you use. Generally, waxed floss is preferred if you have close-fitting teeth and you have trouble sliding the floss into the crevices of your smile.

Mouthwash: Mouthwash can complete the smile-cleaning job—but only if you use the right type of rinse. It’s recommended to use a fluoride, antibacterial, or anti-gingivitis mouthwash. These products can clean your teeth and eliminate the harmful particles in your mouth that cause tooth decay and gum disease.

Please remember to choose oral hygiene products that have been approved by the American Dental Association. The tools with the Seal of Acceptance will safely and effectively clean your smile.
